How to Scan with a Turntable

Jack Wang · May 13, 2026

If you want to scan small objects with a turntable, this can be a very handy method — although it can sometimes be a bit trickier than simply walking around the object.

To help you get better results, here are 5 tips for turntable scanning in KIRI Engine:

  • Use turntables only in the right scan modes: We recommend using a turntable in Photo Scan mode and 3DGS Scan mode.
  • Only use a turntable for textured objects: Turntables work best when the object has rich textures. Avoid scanning featureless, single-color, reflective, or transparent objects with this method.
  • Use the built-in timer feature: the KIRI Engine includes a timer feature for turntable capture. You can set a shooting interval and let the app automatically take photos for you.
  • Take plenty of photos: For best results, let the turntable complete at least 3 full rotations and capture from different heights and distances to improve coverage.
  • Turn on Auto Object Masking: This is very important for turntable scans, as it helps separate the object from the background and can improve reconstruction quality.

Following these tips will help you get started faster with turntable scanning, and we’re sure your results will get better and better with practice.
