AI-Enhanced PBR Material Generation
KIRI Engine’s PBR materials are generated using an AI-enhanced pipeline designed specifically for 3D scanning, delivering cleaner material separation and more consistent surface properties.
With the introduction of diffusion-based AI models in KIRI Engine 4.0, PBR texture generation goes beyond traditional texture baking. Material properties are reconstructed at a semantic level, resulting in more accurate albedo, roughness, and surface detail. This approach reduces common artifacts found in photogrammetry-based PBR workflows and produces production-ready materials that respond more realistically under different lighting conditions.
What makes PBR materials special?
Physically based rendering (PBR) is a rendering method that is particularly effective for generating realism. They provide a more realistic and accurate representation of surfaces by incorporating details like roughness, metallic properties, and ambient occlusion. This makes objects appear more natural across different lighting conditions. KIRI Engine allows users (Pro) to export production-ready PBR texture maps along with the 3D scans.
When exporting a 3D scan with PBR maps, the use of PBR textures enhances the scan's realism, enabling it to retain accurate material properties, even under varying lighting environments. This makes the 3D model suitable for applications like gaming, VR, or product visualization, where realism is crucial. The ability to recreate the look of real-world materials adds depth and richness to the 3D model, improving its overall quality and appeal in both real-time rendering and offline rendering contexts.
