Tips to Improve 3D Gaussian Splatting to Mesh Results
If your 3D Gaussian Splatting to Mesh result doesn’t look right, don’t worry — in many cases, the issue comes from the capture process rather than the feature itself.
Here are 4 quick tips to improve your next scan:
- Scan static objects only: 3D Gaussian Splatting to Mesh works best on individual, unmoving objects. If you are scanning a scene, PhotoScan or LiDAR Scan may be a better option.
- Move around the object freely: Try to place the object where you can fully circle around it. Better coverage leads to better mesh reconstruction.
- Keep the entire object in frame: Make sure the full object stays visible while recording video or taking photos. Missing parts often lead to incomplete mesh results.
- Capture more angles with strong overlap: We recommend about 3 full rotations around the object. If shooting photos, keep at least 70% overlap between adjacent images.
Following these tips can greatly improve your 3DGS to Mesh results and help you generate cleaner, more complete meshes.
